The part played by the Hanoverian and King's German Legion troops during the Waterloo campaign is described in the first of two highly detailed new books on the subject. Drawn exclusively from contemporary manuscript and archival sources, this first volume contains a wealth of previously unpublished material written by officers and men who served with the Hanoverian contingent within the Allied army commanded by the Duke of Wellington, all of which has been professionally translated into English. The various letters and reports provide significant new information on many aspects of the campaign, including the fighting at Les Quatre Bras during the latter stages of the battle on the 16th June, and the skirmishing in the woods around Piraumont in the early hours of the 17th; the role of the Hanoverian and King's German Legion troops at Hougoumont and the valiant defence of La Haie Sainte during the battle of Waterloo, as well as the capture of General Cambronne of the Imperial Guard. The extraordinary text is supplemented by colour contour maps and ten pages of full colour illustrations by Gerry Embleton, making the book an indispensible source for every Waterloo enthusiast.
