Description Unsung Heroes of the Royal Air Force: The Far East Prisoners of War

This publication provides a comprehensive record of the RAF men who in World War II were prisoners of war of the Japanese. A Roll gives the Full Name and Service Number of each of these Far East Prisoners of War (FEPOWs) and the Countries in Which Held. Included for those who did not survive is the Place and Date of Death and Where Buried - or, for those with no known grave, the Memorial Where Commemorated. During their captivity FEPOWs were transported great distances throughout the vast Japanese Empire of the time; the reasons for this, the destinations, dates and numbers involved, and the ships sunk by "friendly fire" are detailed. It is a concise history which will be of interest to every FEPOW, not only those who were in the RAF. It will be invaluable to any family member of a FEPOW wishing to pursue their loved one's part in that history. Included is a means of deciphering the card kept by the Japanese for each of their prisoners of war and now held by the Public Records Office. Les and Pam Stubbs are Committee Members of the Birmingham Associa­tion of Far East Prisoners of War who, since 1985, have produced the Asso­ciation's quarterly newsletter. Married in 1957, they have two children, both of whom are Members of COFEPOW (Children and Relatives of FEPOW), and two grandchildren. This book is published to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of Les's capture.
